The Year 8 Leaver’s Programme

23rd June 17

The leavers programme started with two days off on Monday and Tuesday in lieu of the days the boys came to school over half-term break for revision. But on Wednesday 14th of June the fun began with the Young Enterprise Challenge Master class in the morning and a bike maintenance session in the afternoon.

On Thursday, the boys enjoyed a fun day out in London. They had a tour of the Royal Courts of Justice and enjoyed the beautiful day with lunch at the park. In the afternoon the group headed to the New London Theatre to see the musical, School of Rock. It was a treat for the boys to watch children their own age play instruments live onstage. The show was lively and entertaining and fun was had by all.

Friday was a day packed full with activity. The boys started by going to Sky Academy Skills Studio where they got to really see what it would be like to work in that field. The boys wrote, filmed, appeared in, and edited their own news story about the way “text speak” is affecting our culture.

The second week of the leaver’s programme started with a fun swim in the school pool. Next, our very own marketing manager, Ruth Thorogate did a Young Enterprise program with the boys. Mid-day the boys had a samba drumming session. They quickly learned an impressive routine that they then performed for some of the younger boys at the school. The day ended with games at Bushy Park.

Tuesday morning the year 8 boys participated in a swimming gala. There were a good number of spectators who braved the high temperatures to watch the boys in several exciting races. To end the day the boys worked on their Young Enterprise Logos and their summer fair stall design.

The boys were in for a treat offsite on Wednesday. They travelled to Chertsey where they water-skied and had fun in the sun. Later that evening, many of the boys then played in their last school concert. The boys showcased their incredible musical talent in front of family and friends. There were singers, piano and harp players, and everything in between who performed many diverse musical numbers at The Mall School Theatre.

First aid training started the day on Thursday the 22nd of June. The boys worked with people from St John’s Ambulance to learn and practice various lifesaving skills that can be used in emergency situations.

On Friday, the boys enjoyed some time playing table tennis in the sports hall before they participated in a financial planning/purchasing session with Young Enterprise. At the end of the school day the boys played bubble football with Bubble Boys in the sports hall.

Next week the boys are off to Wales. Look out for photos on our Facebook page and in The Mallian.
