For a small school, The Mall has exceptional facilities. Alongside a purpose built science laboratory, computer suite and modern classrooms with interactive whiteboards we are in a unique position to have the following facilities which enable our pupils to experience an impressive range of creative, performance and sporting opportunities.
Creative and Performing Arts Centre
Our Creative and Performing Arts Centre houses a large art studio, design technology workshop, 150 seat theatre, music room and several small rooms for instrumental lessons. All children get an opportunity throughout the year to perform in front of their parents in concerts, plays and recitals and all pupils use the art studio with the DT workshop used by Years 3 to 6.
Sports Facilities
Our outstanding sports facilities include a 20 metre indoor, heated swimming pool and a modern, purpose built sports hall. Each class, from Reception to Year 6, has a weekly swimming lesson and children make fantastic progress in their swimming and many Mallians swim in regional and national competitions with great success. In recent years, we have repeatedly won the Richmond borough championships and had finalists in national swimming competitions. Each class also has a weekly PE lesson with our sports specialists either in the sports hall or outside in the playground. Years 3 to 6 go to Sunbury Cricket Club two afternoons a week for games and fixtures.
Outdoor Space
We have two large playgrounds on site. Our junior playground for younger children is fully equipped with a play frame and space for trikes and other fun and interactive pieces of equipment. Refurbished in 2024, the playground now boasts vibrant AstroTurf and a track for the children to race around. Our senior playground is designed for our older pupils, perfect for a range of sports. There is plenty of room for football, basketball and other games, as well as a climbing wall for budding mountaineers.
Science Lab
We have a fully equipped science lab, which is used by Years 4 to 6 for their science lessons. Equipment includes Bunsen burners (which pupils are introduced to in Year 4), microscopes, light machines, electrical circuit devices, a magnetic levitation machine and the ever-popular Van der Graaf generator. These enable pupils to conduct a wide range of experiments and investigations, including some that are not usually undertaken at primary level – such as conducting flame tests, making a Voltaic pile battery, making a lens camera, and experiencing being ‘charged up’ with electricity (safely, of course) – the purpose being to develop interest, curiosity and excitement in the natural world.
Library
Our library is a large and vibrant space which was recently refurbished to make it an engaging space for children to read in. Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to become school librarians, keeping the library tidy and presentable for everyone at The Mall to use.
