Parachute testing

9th March 23

Year 4 have been designing and testing their own parachutes, beginning with a standard design to practise the practical skills involved (cutting/threading string through holes/knots etc.), and graduating to designing their own, varying size and shape of canopy, number of suspension lines, size of air vent etc. The challenge is, of course, to stay in the air the longest when dropped from a height. The principle of a fair test is involved but we approach this only informally, as there are lots of variables involved – and because wind conditions usually make a fair test impossible!
