We are looking forward to you and your child joining The Mall School, becoming part of our welcoming and friendly community.
Once your child joins the school, their primary contacts are the class teaching staff, Mr Selby and Ms McManus, who will soon get to know them extremely well. We hope that the children settle quickly into their new class but understand that they may be a little apprehensive at first.
All our staff are well qualified to cope with this but do feel reassured that we will contact you if there is any cause for concern. And we assure you that after the first few weeks of term, the children will all be confident and happy in the classroom, on the climbing frame, in the swimming pool and at lunchbreak!
For new families to Reception class, this interactive joiner’s handbook should give you a brief overview to school life. Please feel free to ask any questions or let us know if your child would like to visit to see what it’s like.
In Reception, the curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS).
At the heart of all teaching and learning is the Personal, Social and Emotional Development of each child. Alongside this, we promote pupils’ communication and language skills, their physical development and their literacy and mathematical development.
We teach in a style that will stimulate interest – pupils play, explore and investigate and are encouraged to persevere; any learning difficulties encountered are seen as learning opportunities and children are encouraged that their effort counts. Exciting topic work fosters a growing understanding of the world around them.
We work closely with parents – the partnership between school and home forms the foundation of successful, positive learning. Parents are encouraged to take an active part in school life, through attending events and Open Assemblies.
Children leave Reception with a positive attitude to learning and are equipped with the confidence, knowledge and skills needed for the challenges of Year 1.
