Admission to The Mall School is normally at Reception. We also admit boys into our recently expanded Year 3 following an assessment in the Autumn prior to entry. Places in other year groups are occasionally available. Entry to The Mall after Reception is based on an assessment. Please contact me, Ms Alex Penny, for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org or 020 8614 1082.
Reception Entry 4+
Admission into the pre-prep at the age of 4 is non-selective. Two classes (maximum 18 boys per class) join Reception each September and will automatically transfer through the school until they leave. All boys now joining us at Reception will leave at the end of Year 6. As we are often fully subscribed, it is advisable to register as early as possible. A place will be reserved when you register unless we are full at that stage in which case we will operate a waiting list. Formal offers are made at the end of February the year prior to that of entry (i.e. formal offers were made on 28 February 2018 for September 2019 entry). At that point, you will be offered a short window in which to accept formally and pay a deposit. We would always recommend a tour and meeting with the Headmaster before this stage.
Entry into Year 3 (7+) and Year 4 (8+)
In September 2017 we expanded our provision at Year 3 from two to three classes. Each class will have a maximum of 20 boys. This is an exciting development for The Mall and we are delighted that more boys will be able to experience the opportunities on offer here from Year 3, whilst still benefiting from the small classes and excellent teaching that contributes so much in preparing them for their senior schools.
Entry into Year 3 and 4 in September 2019
- Open mornings: Saturday 6 October 9.30am-12.00 noon (whole school) and Wednesday 7 November 9.30am-11.00am (7+ and 8+ only)
- Deadline for registration for 7+/8+ assessments: Friday 9 November 2018
- 7+/8+ assessment day: Monday 12 November 2018
- Offer letters sent out: Monday 19 November 2018
- Deadline for acceptances: Thursday 31 January 2019
Boys sitting the assessment come in for the whole day so it includes time in the classroom and playground, as well as sitting short tests in English and Mathematics. Successful candidates will be offered places within a few days of assessment at which point a deposit to secure the place will be requested.
Bursaries at 7+ and 8+
The Mall School is committed to broadening access to the school by awarding a range of bursaries to parents who are otherwise unable to afford school fees. Means-tested bursaries can be assessed for up to 100% of the total fees and are awarded to new pupils (entry at 7+/8+) who are recognised as being able to make a contribution to the life of the school, and to existing pupils in cases of financial hardship. Applications are dealt with in confidence, and again, we would always recommend a tour and meeting with the Headmaster before a boy sits an assessment.
Open Mornings and tours
We would like to invite all parents considering The Mall School to come and see our facilities and meet the team. We hold regular Open Mornings so you can get a genuine feel for the school.
If you are unable to attend an Open Morning, please contact us to organise a personal tour of the school and to meet the Headmaster prior to registering.
